Minutes of last year’s AGM.
Copies of the minutes of the AGM 2015 were available and were accepted as a true record.
The Chairman gave a verbal report. He noted that during the year, many members had been involved in a range of events locally, nationally and internationally. The rock-climbing event had unfortunately not taken place. Members were asked for ideas for other events and activities that the club could provide for members in the coming year. A trip to York Velodrome was proposed to take place in April 2017. Suggestion to invite Derry triathlon club to local event and discussion about triathlon/sport related events taking place as part of Hull City of Culture took place.
The Treasurer presented the accounts for the year. These were accepted. Expenditure during the year has included subsidy of BBQ and Awards Night, the latter of which had a much bigger attendance than last year so greater subsidy. Sponsorship by Cliff Pratt on vouchers for award winners now 5% instead of 50% so greater cost to club. Current surplus of approx £1,300.
Kit surplus. Agreed to take to events to try to clear before new kit is ordered. Chair to liaise with Treasurer re kit from DT.
Agreed Darren Smith to be approached re future sponsorship.
Subscriptions for 2017 agreed at £15.
Members were advised that MH’s subscription site is no longer functioning and future membership to be actioned via link to PayPal.
Request for more phone covers as these had proved very useful.
The Treasurer was thanked for the work he had undertaken in maintaining the accounts during the year and preparing the year end accounts.
Report from Committee members
The Secretary’s report is included at the end of these minutes.
Membership Secretary’s report.
Currently 86 members and 5 down from last year. Membership renewals are due in January 2017 and will be only available on-line and payment via PayPal. Members to receive information newsletter when registered.
Socials during the year had gone well and a further evening is planned for March to help make club more proactive and cohesive.
Publicity Officer’s report.
Events and activities were currently well publicised through FB and any opportunities to promote the club and its activities were taken whenever possible. There was discussion about promoting the club through FB sites such as Hull Runners and other website forums. Graham Jenkinson to forward details.
Kit secretary’s report
No report as covered in Financial Report.
Regional Officer’s report.
The Regional Officer updated the meeting on regional matters. Michelle Scott, BTF Regional Officer had attended a recent Committee meeting.
Duathlon Officer’s report.
The duathlon series events had been well attended and went well. At some of the duathlons, volunteers had been thin on the ground and thanks were given to those volunteers who had regularly helped with the organisation – NR, KD and RI.
Dates had to fit in with local time trials and so dates cannot always be circulated too far in advance. There had been a drop off in attendance at the longer Simply Running duathlons so option to reduce distances discussed. Cliff Pratt duathlons had attracted new members and had been well supported.
Club triathlon to be Allerthorpe. Members to register and then claim subsidy refund from Treasurer to ensure that only Club members are supported as this had been a particular problem at this year’s event.
There was discussion about the pricing and details will go live on the website in February.

Secretary’s report 2016:
The 2016 season saw members participate in a range of different triathlon and duathlon events, both locally, nationally and internationally. A record number of Barracudas entered this year’s Outlaw full distance triathlon with an extensive support crew cheering them on.
As well as these more usual events, Club members can also be inspired by those seeking a more unusual challenge. Endurance runs such as the Bob Graham Round or the Lakesman 100 provide excellent training for the hardier members. Members have produced some outstanding results including qualifying for the Holy Grail of triathlon – Kona- and securing podium places and setting course age group records.
For relaxation, the social calendar has included a summer BBQ and a Curry Night. The annual Awards Dinner and Presentation evening when members got together to share and celebrate the many memorable achievements of the year took place last week.
The following Awards were presented:
Simply Running duathlon – Adrian Messingham and Ellen Messingham
Cliff Pratt duathlon – Carl Coates
Best male triathlete – Rob Fletcher
Best male veteran triathlete – Simon Jack
Best female triathlete – Juliet May
Best female veteran triathlete – Jackie Hardman
Best newcomer – Ed Lisney
Best performance – Juliet May
Most improved – Zoe Dale
So what does 2017 hold for the Barracudas? As well as the annual duathlon series, members are already planning their own events schedules and entering those events which are particularly popular before they are sold out. Several members have again entered the Outlaw Ironman event in July as well as other events both here in the UK and abroad! Good luck to you all! And now that with assistance from James we have got a results page on the website I hope to be able to keep it up to date so progress can be followed. Also in the near future there will be a short survey circulated to everyone so that we can get ideas as to how the club can be improved and better meet members’ needs.
The final Club events for 2016 take place on 17/18thDecember with the winter triathlon taking place on Saturday 17th at Billabong starting at 10.00am, distances to be determined by those hardy souls who turn up on the day. On Sunday 18th the annual Mince Pie Barracuda run starts from Beverley Leisure Centre at 9.00am again with a choice of distances and ending with cake and mince pies at the Leisure Centre.
It has been a great year so very best wishes for Christmas and I hope Santa brings you all the triathlon bikes and kit that you have put on your lists ready for the 2017 season.
