Sunday 2nd June 2019

Challenge Distance: 800m Swim / 43km Cycle / 10km Run

Middle Distance: 1.6km Swim / 82km Cycle / 20km Run

Race Start: 11:20am

Registration and Bike Racking takes place on race morning from 9:20am. Please allow plenty of time to register, rack your bike and set up as all athletes need to be at the swim start by 11:05am for the race briefing.

Deep water start in the tidal River Blackwater. The course is a unique experience in and among the moored boats and provides good viewing opportunities for spectators on the sea wall and run to transition. Challenge Distance athletes start at 11:20am and complete 1 lap of the course. Middle Distance athletes start at 11:25am and complete 2 laps. Water safety marshals will be present with motorised boats & canoes. If you want to raise the attention of the marshals turn on your back and raise one arm in the air. Please note this is a tidal river and is a challenging swim, much more so than a typical open water or pool swim. Wetsuits are compulsary. Swim cut-off strictly 12:30am.

The cycle course takes athletes away from Bradwell Waterside and onto the quiet scenic roads of the Dengie Peninsula. Here you will pass through small towns and villages with traditional weatherboard homes, negotiate the Burnham Bends and experience a fast and flat course over the marshes. Challenge Distance athletes will complete 1 lap of the course and Middle Distance athletes 2 laps.

The run is held over a truly fantastic and unique course. Athletes will run past the old airfield and RAF memorial before heading towards the coast. St Peters Chapel will become visible as you retrace the steps of religous pilgrims from as far back as 654AD. The course then follows the sea wall, popular with walkers, before passing the decomissioned nuclear power station and returning to Bradwell. Surface is a mixture of paved roads, trail and gravel track with some short narrow sections on the sea wall. Challenge Distance athletes need to complete 1 lap and Middle Distance athletes 2 laps if they are to make it to the finish line.
