SUNDAY 3RD MAY 2020
This is the 20th annual Kirkbymoorside 10k and it is a big day for our town. The race is based right in the centre of Kirkbymoorside, starting and finishing in the same location. The finish is a wonderful downhill stretch along the High Street and spectators line the street and encourage finishers all the way to the end. Even if this is your first 10k, you will feel an enormous sense of achievement as you come down the hill!
The event is staged annually to raise money for the charity PTA groups of local schools Kirkbymoorisde CP School (Reg. charity 1050071) and Gillamoor C of E School. It is their biggest fundraising event of the year and the money raised is used to enrich and enhance the educational experience of the children in our local area.
We are open to runners of all abilities. The race does attract club runners for Yorkshire and further afield too. There is, therefore, a competitive element amongst club runners who find this quite a challenging road race but also plenty of people who come to enjoy the day and perhaps try and achieve a PB (personal best). With children's races on offer too, stalls on the streets, shops and cafes open, it is a great day out for all the family.
The race start time is 2 pm.
Prizes are listed in detail at kirkbymoorside10k.com. In brief, all children receive a medal, all adults in the 10km event receive a finishers’ mug.
Here is a description of the events:
Dash: 400 metres from the town centre up and back down the High Street. Parents welcome to run too but may be overtaken by speedy children! Hares lead the way. A great event for years 2 and under, this will be most children’s first race and hopefully very enjoyable.
1 Mile: Suitable for children in primary school years 3 – 6 inclusive. 1 mile race, mostly on road, small section through Manor Vale. Fully marshaled & traffic controlled, partial road closure on the High Street. Hares will lead the way. Trophies awarded to first girl and boy in every year group.
Teen’s Race: Approx 4 km, from center of town, up Swineherd Lane, across to Low Park Farm down the private track and back into town via Castlegate. Hilly circuit but downhill finish! Open to adults as a fun run. No medals or placings for adult runners.
10km Race: 15 years and over. A fast, undulating course starting in Kirkbymoorside, then onto Gillamoor and Fadmoor. A downhill finish where a roaring crowd of spectators in the Town Centre will greet you along with Kirkbymoorside’s famous brass band.
